Ski
It’d be a wonder if Idahoans didn’t want to keep their stash secret. As the Continental Divide barrels its way into Canada, Idaho’s 16 downhill areas reap the benefits of the Rockies’ steep slopes and prodigious snow. Running the gamut from earthy mom-and-pop slopes like Brundage to glamour pusses like Grand Targhee and Sun Valley, Idaho skiing has something for everyone. And even though 3,000-acre Targhee and happening Sun Valley win international plaudits, you won’t find the attitude or snobbery of other resort regions to the south. Here it’s about the snow (big dumps that get sloshed up with wetter precipitation blowing in from the Pacific) and terrain set amongst the majestic terrain of the Rockies’ Bitterroot, Grand Teton, and Sawtooth ranges. Cross country skiers will also find lots of room to glide in the 46 Nordic ski areas across the state.
